About
Clint Bussey is a local Atlanta musician. He writes and performs original music, as well as covers. His music can be labeled as rock and folk, yet you'll hear elements of grunge, metal, psychedelic, and classic rock. His voice is often likened to Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, while just as many people hear a bit of Thom Yorke from Radiohead in his singing.
He plays weekly at several bars and restaurants all over Georgia and, at times, out of state. He also performs on the street in several cities in the U.S., frequenting cities in the southeastern U.S. He is a regular at Truck 'N' Tap, Iron Horse Tavern, Three Blind Mice, Taps @PHEAST, and several Georgia Breweries. He has played some notable venues other than these including Tabernacle, Rock 'N' Taco, Sweetwater Brewery, Madlife Stage & Studios, and Line Creek Brewing Co.
On September 4, 2025 he had the privilege of opening for British Pop/ Rock band Pulp. They were having dinner at Fat Matt's Rib Shack in Atlanta one evening while on their North American Tour. It just so happened that Clint was performing that night. They liked his performance so much that they asked him to open for them at the Tabernacle, a local Atlanta venue. He graciously accepted their offer!
January 2026 saw the release of his first solo album. It is a 9 song self-titled release. It's an emotional and psychological rollercoaster, journeying through familial abandonment, residual guilt leftover from strict religious indoctrination, relationship issues, and, at times, surfacing to the light of spiritual transcendence. In it you will also hear of his part to play in the struggle with the U.S. corporatocracy. Swinging from rage to mercy, but always looking for a better way forward. The album is available on many major online stores like Amazon Music, iTunes, and Apple Music as well as streaming sites like Spotify. You can also buy it at a few Record Stores in Georgia. NX Vinyl in Norcross, Wax 'N' Facts in Little Five Points, Wuxtry Records and Decatur CD & Vinyl in Decatur.
In addition to his solo music, Clint fronts local band Purple Country. They are a punk, metal, grunge, psychedelic, whatever-they-want-to play band! They write and perform original music at local venues like Sweetwater Bar & Grill in Duluth and Blackstrap Rock Hall in Gainesville, Georgia. They are planning on recording an EP this year and have several shows booked through the spring and summer.
Before Purple Country Clint was in a band with his brother, Ashley Bussey, called Opposing Suns. In its heyday it was made up of Clint on vocals and guitar, Ashley on guitar, Matthew Vaughn on bass, and Kenny Lockwood on drums. Their music was similar to the music played in Purple Country, but not quite as heavy.
In Opposing Suns he had the honor of playing the famous Whisky a Go Go in Beverly Hills, at California's Sunset Strip. The same stage graced by great bands like The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, as well as hair metal groups like Guns 'N' Roses. They also played several bars along the California coast, including Blue Cafe in Long Beach, Winston's in San Diego, The Key Club in L.A. and even the 3-day music festival Rock Party headlined by Animals as Leaders.
He was also formally the front man for prog/ psych/ hard rock band Before the Solstice. Although Before the Solstice had several members over the years, Clint and bassist/ keyboardist J.W. Popovits were the pillars of the group. In their most popular year, 2010, the line-up was Clint, J.W., guitarist Matt Norris, and drummer Tony Runco. They played all over Georgia, especially in Atlanta and Athens, at venues like The Masquerade, Drunken Unicorn, Tasty World, and Hard Rock Cafe. Their song, "No One Escapes the Sun" was regularly played on 99X's "Locals Only" show in 2010. They also played live over the air on that same show over the summer of 2010 with host Shawn Williams. The Before the Solstice album can still be streamed on sites like Spotify and iHeart Radio as well as purchased on iTunes, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.
Clint's plans for 2026 are to play solo shows in Georgia in promotion of his album, as well as playing with his band. He may also release a few singles this year, so look out for that. Check the upcoming shows page on this website to see where he is playing this year and try to make it out to a show!
